Declared by UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve in 1984, Urdaibai is a natural area, a beautiful wetland and varied whose origin is the Oka River and known as the Mundaka estuary where its mouth.

Oma Forest

Also known as the animated forest, created in 1984 by sculptor and painter Agustín Ibarrola, Oma Forest is a magical space that combines art and nature. Definitely a modern art GINO land art celebrating the art of the ancestral Palaeolithic artists.


Urdaibai environment covers a wide range of beaches to enjoy with, such as the beach of Laidatxu in Mundaka, Laida beach or Laga beach in Kanala. Certainly Laga is one of the most beautiful beaches of the Basque coast with its fine golden sand open to the sea.

BTT Center

The BTT Busturialdea, Centre has 11 routes for all levels although they emphasize its demanding itineraries that test the skills of cyclists, so it is ideal for mountain biking experts. Among its accessible routes to all levels it stands out  the one that runs along the estuary of Mundaka starting and finishing from the town of Gernika.

Mundaka has the great privilege of being known in the field of surf and enjoy one of the 10 best waves left the world and the best in Europe. His perfection has attracted many surfers from around the world both professionals and amateurs taking their first steps through the courses offered by the different surf schools as Mundaka Mundaka Surf School, Surfin' Mundaka or Mundaka Surf Taldea.
